vCRE-vis

Global cis-regulatory landscape of double-stranded DNA viruses

Welcome to vCRE-vis, a data visualization tool focused on exploring the cis-regulatory landscapes of double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) viruses using Massively Parallel Reporter Assays (MPRA).

This app visualizes a large dataset of viral Cis Regulatory Elements (CREs) activity across genomes of 27 dsDNA viruses from Adenovirus, Herpesvirus, Polyomavirus, and Papillomavirus families.

Background

dsDNA viruses use host transcription machinery to regulate viral gene expression through cis-regulatory elements (CREs), influenced by host and viral transcription factors. Most viral CREs remain uncharacterized.

Study Summary

Using massively parallel reporter assays (MPRA), ~3,000 CREs were identified across 27 dsDNA viruses. Many CREs show promoter-like features and overlap coding regions, with higher density than in the human genome.

About vCRE-vis

vCRE-vis lets you explore CRE activity across viral genomes by virus, cell line, and regulatory features — helping visualize patterns and regulatory landscapes in dsDNA viruses.
